Platform comparison
Shopify vs Wix
Products, bookings and the work behind the website. Choose around the way your business runs, not just the way a demo looks.
Start with your main transaction.
Mostly products?
Shortlist Shopify for a product-led store, then test the catalog, shipping, payments and integrations you actually need. Wix Stores can also sell products.
Mostly appointments?
Start by testing Wix Bookings. Shopify can sell services too, but scheduling needs its own app or integration decision.
A mix of both?
Test a purchase and a booking end to end. Neither a product import nor a nice homepage proves that both workflows fit.
Compare the jobs you do every week.
| Task | Shopify | Wix |
|---|---|---|
| Products and stock | Test variants, fulfillment and any supplier connection against a real order. | Wix Stores supports product options and variant pricing/inventory. Test the same catalog. |
| Appointments | Choose a booking app and check availability, capacity and customer messages. | Wix Bookings manages scheduling. Check service types, extras and the booking rules you require. |
| Design and editing | A theme supplies the storefront foundation; sections, apps and code can extend it. | Choose the editor and business tools that fit. A custom frontend can retain a Wix backend. |
| Custom ordering | Define how artwork, dependent choices and calculated prices reach the order. | Check native options and supported integrations before committing to custom work. |
Use the same sample product or service on each shortlist. Change a price, make an unavailable choice, open it on a phone, and inspect the information the business receives. For the Shopify design scope, compare theme customization with a custom theme.
Canario Detailing / Wix booking backend
A redesign does not have to replace everything.
For Canario, DVS built a branded selection flow for packages, vehicle sizes and extras, then a service-specific handoff to Wix booking. The frontend shows an estimate; appointment availability and confirmation remain with the booking system.
This is an example of retaining a backend, not a claim that Canario is a native Wix storefront or a completed Shopify migration.
Explore the booking flow
Custom ordering is a separate requirement.
In our Direct Laser Source Shopify project, supplier availability, garment quantities, artwork placement and decoration rules work together in an apparel builder. That is a specific implementation, not a feature every Shopify theme includes.
An app may already meet your requirement. Use our product-options app versus custom builder guide to evaluate that choice separately.
Compare a year of ownership, not a headline price.
Get current quotes for plans that support the same business tasks, in the same currency and billing term. A website-only plan and a plan accepting online payments are not equivalent.
| Cost | Include in both estimates | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Design, content, catalog setup and any custom development. | What is included, and who supplies the content? |
| Recurring tools | The platform plan, domain renewal, apps and connected services. | Annual commitment, renewal price and required paid features. |
| Payments | Applicable processing and platform transaction charges. | Country, payment provider and expected sales mix. |
| Support and changes | Maintenance, testing, training and later improvements. | Who handles updates, failures and account access? |
| Migration | Data mapping, content, redirects and workflow testing. | What transfers, what must be rebuilt and what stays behind? |
First-year cost is setup plus recurring services, applicable transaction costs and agreed support. Neither platform is automatically cheaper. Custom store work is scoped separately from our standard business website packages.
Keep what works. Test what moves.
If Wix already handles your bookings well, a design problem alone is not a reason to replace it. If you move to Shopify, inventory the appointments, customer data, orders, content and automations separately. Confirm what the chosen migration method supports.
Neither platform choice guarantees Google rankings. Preserve useful URLs and content, map necessary redirects, and check the finished pages. Our redesign SEO checklist covers the launch checks.

Platform questions
Can Shopify handle a service business?
Yes. Shopify supports non-physical service products and documents booking apps. Test the selected app for your scheduling, capacity, payment and cancellation requirements rather than assuming it matches an existing Wix setup.
Does Wix support product choices and paid service extras?
Wix Stores supports product options with variant pricing and inventory. Wix Bookings also supports service add-ons. These are different tools; test the exact product or service behavior your business needs.
Should I move just to improve SEO?
First diagnose the actual problem: indexing, content, navigation, performance or a workflow the platform cannot support. A migration adds work and risk; a platform name alone is not an SEO result.
